What on earth is this?

It's not often I go a week without blogging and I am sorely missing the opportunity to scribble and share. However, with just a few days to go until my eCourse starts and plenty of other work and commitments then something had to give.

I've come up with some great posts while in the car, but the witty gems just didn't want to come back to me once I was in front of a keyboard. I've also been hitting the gym!

One of my 'other commitments' has been the Messy Book Group where we continue to experiment and push the boundaries of what the uninitiated might call chaos, but we call art. This week has seen car tyres painted brightly and then driven over the book, a snake persuaded to make mud paintings and some mysteries involving unknown substances.

I'm in the unknown substance camp. What on earth do think I used to make these interesting textures and patterns?

Anyone that guesses correctly goes in the draw to win a free place on my creativity course which starts on Monday. There are five 'components' to guess! I'll pick tomorrow morning (UK time 9am-ish... it's Saturday.... I might sleep late...).

If you don't win, fear not. For just £42 (that's around US$67), you could join us on an 8 week playful journey to the island of Inspiration, on the trail of Technique with the excitement of Experimentation! We will be making art, writing magical prose and generally having a picnic of a time.

(Forgive the shameless plug... I'm just excited to be doing this at last and am a gregarious soul, so would love lots more people to join those already signed up!).

Hmm.... What can they be?

Sharing for Paint Party Friday.

PS - Just realised I published this in the wrong blog - meant to put it in my usual one... Oh well... never mind!

I have missed being messy for the last two weeks and now Phantom is fighting fit again we are back for another onslaught... I sooo have no clue what this is... is it jelly crystals???? poor Phantom is going to lose it when I show her, I have been saving Kristin driving over her book as a surprise as well... so now I get double the fun... mess on baby mess on...xx

  3. Could it be a combo of salt, diaper filling (or those water crystals you add to soil)mixed with food coloring and assorted paint? The texture reminds me of salt and watercolor....whatever you used, I really like the color and texture!

  4. Beautiful, intense colors. I don't think it's salt, because I don't see any white flecks. Hmm...sugar, watercolor (or ink?) and it looks like theres' a mesh pattern in there. Fun! Good luck with your class.

  5. I"m stumped... some sort of crystally, jelly-ish something that absorbs color. Can't quite decide what that is. Will be thinking on it all day now :)

  6. Could it be watercolor and sand? I do love the deep rich colors. I am really looking forward to your ecourse. The first course is always the most exciting. Enjoy every minute.

  7. Can't really think of a thing, so I'll put my only possible guess - soil from the garden may be one, and bleach for the other. Love the result, though.

  8. Hmmm... maybe gauze, some water-based pigment(ok, I know that is shooting WIDE), baking soda and alcohol? Regardless, I like it!

  9. I'm stumped too. Whatever it is, it looks great to me. Maybe glues that got hard and paint was applied? Have a great weekend.

  12. I too have disappearing posts thought of on a car ride!! Wish I could get them back! My first thought for your texture was salt, sugar, baking soda, or laundry detergent crystals! Curious to find out! Did you put oil in the paint too?

  18. Hi Lisa,

Thank you again for being the Featured Artist last week!

This is very cool. I have no idea what created it but I'm thinking... maybe various colours of jello crystals, water, maybe melted crayons, a bit of mesh or fabric, juice?

Are you going to make it into something?
